Hello out there, Little New-Yorkers! Anyone ever had a pet, a furry friend, or an imaginary pal who just won’t do what you want them to? Meet Wilfred and “his” pet Moose, who can’t quite get with Wilfred’s program because, according to him, he doesn’t belong to anyone! Join us to find out how they compromise, work together, and respect each other. Then, create your own Moose pal self-portrait at home.
Follow along with this post to create with us at home and don’t forget to join us live every Tuesday and Friday at 3:30 pm where we sing a special Little New-Yorkers hello song, do silly stretches and exercises, and read a storybook, all from the comfort of your living room.
- Printed Moose and Me portrait template (Print Template)
- Something to draw with: colored pencils, markers, crayons
*A note on supplies: If you don’t have exactly the supplies listed, improvise! These projects are designed to be versatile, so feel free to use whatever materials and tools you have at home. And if your final product looks different than what you see here, that’s wonderful!
STEP 1: Color in Moose and background
Using your coloring materials, make the Moose and background your own. We went with some sparkling purple mountains and realistic moose colors for our drawings.
STEP 2: Create a self-portrait
Add features and details to make the person template look more like you! How else will your Moose recognize you?
STEP 3: What are you saying? What is that Moose thinking?
What will you say to your Moose friend? What are they thinking in response? Create a conversation between the two of you.
We hope you enjoy this activity! Share your creations in the comments below and during our online sessions of Little New Yorkers @ Home Tuesdays and Fridays at 3:30 pm. See you then!
