Greetings young historians! Our July book is Chains by Laurie Halse Anderson. The book follows Isabelle, an enslaved girl struggling for freedom in New York City during the Revolutionary War. This book is full of incredible characters from our smart hero to her enslaved friend (and Patriot spy) Curzon, to her cruel Loyalist, owners, Mr. and Mrs. Lockton. While you enjoy the drama, you’ll learn how important New York City was in the war for American liberty…and least, liberty for some.
Our Book Wrap is on Wednesday, July 18th from 4:30 pm to 6 pm. Come and talk about the book, see REAL documents from the 1700s and do a scavenger hunt. Want to get reading right now? You can buy the book from our gift shop!
