Hello, Historians!
This Wednesday from 4:30-6 pm we are hosting a book wrap party for Chains by Laurie Halse Anderson. Isabel’s story of her struggle to find her sister and to gain freedom from slavery in New York CIty is a page turner! But even if you haven’t quite finished, join us for a special opportunity to see actual documents from the American Revolution.
The Gilder Lerhman Institute is loaning us these incredible documents. Our book club members will be able to look at letters and newspaper clippings that are at least 230 years old! We will even be showing an advertisement for a runaway slave named Arch that was posted in a newspaper in 1791. This is only fifteen years after the year during which Chains takes place. We hope Arch found freedom, and we hope Isabel does too.
So join us on Wednesday for some history, some conversation and some snacks at our second summer book club wrap event.
