Welcome back, Little New-Yorkers! This week, we are celebrating friendship with the delightful picture book Bear Says Thanks, written by Karma Wilson and illustrated by Jane Chapman. What better way to celebrate than to share a feast with loved ones? That’s exactly how Bear decides to show his love for his forest friends. Join us to find out how it all comes together and create your own feast with some deliciously illustrated paper treats to share at home.
Follow along with this post to create with us at home and don’t forget to join us live every Tuesday and Friday at 3:30 pm where we sing a special Little New-Yorkers hello song, do silly stretches and exercises, and read a storybook, all from the comfort of your living room.
- Printed place setting and foods templates ( Template 1 & Template 2)
- Something to draw with: colored pencils, markers, crayons
- Something to attach: glue, tape, stapler (optional)
*A note on supplies: If you don’t have exactly the supplies listed, improvise! These projects are designed to be versatile, so feel free to use whatever materials and tools you have at home. And if your final product looks different than what you see here, that’s wonderful!
STEP 1: Color in your place setting and food
Using your coloring materials, make the foods, and place setting your own. Always wanted a rainbow placemat? Now’s your chance! Been craving a blueberry muffin? Color in those tasty treats exactly as you’d like to eat them.
STEP 2: Cut out food
Using scissors, carefully cut out your food.
STEP 3: Combine to create a tasty meal to share!
Experiment with different combinations of the foods in front of you. What would you eat for breakfast? What would you serve to your best friend for a snack? Create as many tasty meals, snacks, and treats as you like! If you’re sure you have a favorite combination, tape or glue it down to remember it always.
Feel free to create your own foods to add to your plate as well! What would you bring to a share-the-love friendship potluck? If you can eat it, you can make it.
We hope you enjoy this activity! Share your creations in the comments below and during our online sessions of Little New Yorkers @ Home Tuesdays and Fridays at 3:30 pm. See you then!
